Physical Therapy Program GRE Requirements
Different physical therapy (PT) programs have different GRE requirements. While some PT programs have minimum requirements that may include standardized test scores, others don’t require the GRE at all. Minimum requirements can range from just taking the test to attaining a minimum score. Here are the GRE requirements by schools, according to the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service (PTCAS) Directory.
Doctor of Physical Therapy

Understanding GRE requirements and scores for PT school
On a program’s Admission Requirements tab, the PTCAS Directory includes an “Is GRE Required?” field that programs answer with Yes, No or Optional. A “No” means the program does not require scores, and “Optional” means sending them is up to you. In either case, read the program’s admissions page to see whether submitted scores are considered in its review.
The PTCAS Directory’s GRE Requirements and Codes by Program page lists GRE score-reporting codes and, for programs that specify one, the last acceptable test date.
As of September 2026, ETS’s GRE General Test scoring page shows that Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning scores are reported on a 130–170 scale in one-point increments and Analytical Writing scores on a 0–6 scale in half-point increments. ETS’s score availability page also states that scores remain reportable for five years after your test date and that official scores appear in your ETS account 8–10 days after you test. Plan your test date so your scores can reach each program before its deadline.
